This is why HCSMs make more sense than ever. Christians can save money, stay out of debt, and have more medical options,’ says Katy Talento
WASHINGTON — Health care costs have soared over the past few years, mostly thanks to ill-advised government policies imposed under Obamacare and the Biden/Harris administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
“People are spending more money than ever on their health care, often with expensive insurance plans that don’t deliver the financial security they promise,” says Katy Talento, executive director of The Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries (The Alliance, ahcsm.org).
“Because of the Inflation Reduction Act, senior citizens already on limited incomes are suffering sharp spikes in Medicare Part D prices along with already inflated costs for food, fuel and housing.
“This is why HCSMs make more sense than ever. Christians can save money, stay out of debt and have more medical options.”
According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Biden-Harris administration’s IRA increased Medicare Part D insurance premiums, a prime driver of higher costs for seniors.
For example, the average prescription drug plan bid from insurance companies nearly tripled from 2024 to 2025 because of the Inflation Reduction Act. The average monthly bid for private Medicare Part D insurance plans grew from $64.28 in 2024 to $179.45 in 2025 (a 179% increase).
This will cost $10 billion to $20 billion more overall in 2025, according to a memo from Advancing American Freedom.
“This could have been avoided if lawmakers who know better had resisted the Inflation Reduction Act, now revealed as a false fix that has triggered the opposite of its supposed intent,” Talento says. “The good news is that the incoming Trump administration and Republican Congress have an opportunity to overturn this oxymoronically labeled law and overhaul Obamacare.
“Meanwhile, the Alliance has long advocated practical ways to lower costs, including negotiating better prices and more transparency in health expenses of all kinds, from drug prices to medical treatments to hospital stays. In addition, the Alliance has championed alternative medicines and treatments.”
To provide political cover just before the election, the Biden-Harris Administration established the legally questionable “Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration” to buy down premiums, Fox Business reported.
The $5 billion Biden-Harris administration gambit in September to offset Medicare premium increases just before the presidential election may be a Hatch Act violation and should be investigated, according to a letter sent to the Department of Justice (DOJ) by Sen. Rand Paul, (R-Ky).
“Given the IRA’s central role in the Biden-Harris Administration’s presidential campaign, these concerns warrant additional investigation,” Sen. Paul wrote.
“HCSMs offer less cost, less red tape, and more choices for health care consumers. Members can live out the biblical admonition to show love for one another in practical ways, such as helping with each other’s medical expenses,” Talento says.
“HCSM members obtain principled, high-quality care at a price often more affordable than what Big Insurance or the hyper-regulated federal exchange offerings.”
