‘We thank Utah Rep. Jefferson S. Burton for standing up for religious freedom and defending Christian health care’

 WASHINGTON The Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries (AHCSM.org) recently honored Utah Representative Jefferson S. Burton with the “Religious Liberty Legislative Hero of the Year” award in recognition of his bravery on behalf of the free exercise of religion.

 “We thank Utah Rep. Jefferson S. Burton for standing up for religious freedom and defending Christian health care,” said Executive Director of the Alliance, Katy Talento.

“We applaud Jefferson for his bold stand for freedom. The Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries is pleased to acknowledge him and his work protecting Health Care Sharing Ministries in Tennessee by naming him our ‘Religious Liberty Legislative Hero of the Year.’”

As a former major general in the U.S. Army, Burton is committed to bringing his Christian values and military experience to Utah’s legislation. Throughout his time as a Utah State Representative, Burton has sponsored bills such as UT HB0336, amending provisions concerning the Department of Public Safety; UT HB0046, amending provisions related to the Veterans and Military Affairs Commission; and UT HB0245, modifying provisions related to the Utah National Guard.

Rep. Burton also recently co-sponsored Utah HB 514, allowing an LEA to permit a volunteer chaplain in a school for counseling purposes, creating a resource to aid students in their mental health.

 Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Alliance of Health Care Sharing Ministries is a 501(c)(6) trade organization representing the common interests of Health Care Sharing Ministry organizations which are facilitating the sharing of health care needs (financial, emotional, and spiritual) by individuals and families, and their participants. The Alliance engages with federal and state regulators, members of the media, and the Christian community to provide accurate and timely information on health care sharing.
